Two and a Half Street

Sometimes friendships seem to blossom out of the most unexpected places.  We sat in a tiny little alleyway on two wooden patio chairs, squished between the cream painted wall and the edge of a small dog park.  Dried leaves floated down getting tangled in our long humidified hair as she fished a folded fan out of her tote bag.

Yet under these conditions which to anyone outside of Hong Kong, might define as probably not the best, our chatter filled the lofty breeze with visions of miso and ideas of lemons.

Who would’ve thought that a simple “how’s your day going?” at an evening networking event while earnestly ordering a glass of chardonnay after a long day at work would turn into a passionate conversation over coffee and chewy waffles about having the same book on our bookshelves.  The Flavour Thesaurus by Niki Segnit.

A philosophical connection rooted in food, memories, art, and psychology, a new bond was solidified that afternoon.  Between two girls who grew up actually not too far from each other, jetting off to universities on opposite sides of the world, and now meeting in the city that still calls on their hearts, it only took one moment of convergence to create a sunset bouquet – vibrant colours of summer slushies, delicate textures of sentimental petals, hand-picked from the same roots of sweet inspiration.
